What is a Rhytidectomy?
A rhytidectomy, commonly known as a face lift, is a surgical procedure that improves visible signs of aging in the face and neck. This can include:
- Sagging of the Mid-face
- Deep creases below the lower eyelids
- “Smile lines” or deep creases running from the nose to the corners of the mouth
- Sunken/displaced fat
- Jowls created by loss of muscle tone in the lower face
- A double chin caused by loose skin and fatty deposits
Often times other rejuvenation procedures, like a brow lift or eyelid surgery, are performed in conjunction with the face lift to further correct signs of aging in the face.
What is it not?
A facelift will not change your fundamental appearance or stop the aging process. It can only be performed surgically. Non-surgical treatments cannot achieve the same results, but may complement the surgical results or help delay the time at which a facelift becomes more appropriate.
Is a Rhytidectomy right for me?
If you’re physically healthy, don’t smoke, and have a positive outlook and specific, yet realistic, goals for the improvement of your facial appearance, a face lift could be right for you.

How much does a Rhytidectomy cost?
The cost for a face lift varies from practice to practice and with a handful of variables. During your consultation, you’ll want to make sure you are taking into account the following costs:
- Surgeon’s fee
- Hospital or surgical facility fees
- Anesthesia fees
- Prescriptions for medication
- Post-surgery garments
- Medical tests

Step 1: Schedule a consultation!
At your consultation, be prepared to discuss realistic expectations based on your unique build, genetics, history and lifestyle. You may be asked to get pre-surgical lab testing, medication evaluation and to stop smoking if you are a smoker. Rhytidectomy does require anesthesia and you will receive specific pre- and post-operative instructions from your surgeon.
